Council betrayed the community over Kilmardinny10.25.00am GMT Mon 8th Feb 2010
Jo has slammed the Labour-Tory administration for giving the green light to the controversial Kilmardinny development. At a meeting of East Dunbartonshire Council, Labour and Tory Councillors voted to agree to the same deal with developers CALA Management and Stewart Milne Holdings which they previously opposed. Liberal Democrat and SNP Councillors voted for an amendment to refuse the deal, but Labour and Tory Councillors unanimously voted to approve the CALA and Stewart Milne Proposals. The Kilmardinny Westpark Action Group had presented a petition with 5,000 signatures calling on the Council not to approve the deal. Commenting, Jo said: "I am incredibly disappointed that the Council has betrayed the community on this hugely important decision, when it knew very well that local people are overwhelmingly opposed to the deal. There was an amendment on the table to refuse the deal, but Labour and Tory Councillors unanimously voted to approve the CALA and Stewart Milne Proposals. "The people of Milngavie and Bearsden have been sold down the river by the very people whom they expected to stand up for them. I am pleased that my Lib Dem colleagues listened to their constituents and did the right thing by voting against the deal. Well done to those Councillors who stood by their convictions and voted against this act of betrayal."
