We Like Milngavie’s efforts will ensure the community speaks with one voice on Tesco - Jo

August 8, 2011 9:49 AM

Following a packed AGM, Jo Swinson MP has praised We Like Milngavie's important role in bringing together community opposition to Tesco's Milngavie plans.

After the election of the group's officers, the We Like Milngavie AGM discussed how the group would be taking the Tesco redevelopment issue forward and mobilising support for the campaign against a store double that of the present size.

With a strong showing from local people, contributions to the meeting were made by elected representatives including the local Member of the Scottish Youth Parliament Ross Greer, who spoke eloquently about his opposition to the plans.

Commenting after the meeting Jo Swinson MP said:

"The AGM was a positive indicator of how the community - along with cross-party support - is pulling together over the battle to stop Tesco building a store double its current size in Milngavie.

"It is extremely positive that We Like Milngavie has a strong team to ensure that the community speaks with one voice. The group will play a vital role in mobilising support and looking at how people can use their power as consumers to ensure that Tesco listens to the genuine concerns of local residents about this redevelopment."
