Swinson: Bishopbriggs redevelopment must benefit local community

Following the sale of the Bishopbriggs redevelopment land to Morrisons on December 21, Jo has welcomed the publication of the Section 75 legal agreement regulating the terms of the planning permission.
The Section 75 agreement has specified a financial contribution from the developers of £300,000 for the delivery of a new Community Hub. The facilities will include exhibition space, a community cafe and offices suitable for public meetings.
The provision of 60 unrestricted long stay car parking spaces will go ahead, and £140,000 will also be put toward improving Kirkintilloch Road. Affordable housing will also be built on the land.
The Section 75 agreement has also set out plans for Morrisons to join with the Council, the Community Champions and other relevant parties to create the Bishopbriggs Town Centre Forum (BTCF). The Forum will meet as often as is required to discuss the final details of the masterplan for the redevelopment, and discuss any concerns raised amongst Bishopbriggs residents.
Commenting, Jo said:
"After requesting at our last meeting that the Council publish the Section 75 legal agreement, it is pleasing that the document has been made publicly available. A great opportunity exists for Bishopbriggs to benefit from this redevelopment, through investment in public facilities, improved transport links and affordable housing - but there is a long way to go before these plans take shape.
"This has been a long and complicated process, but with the Section 75 legal agreement now firmly in place I hope that there will now be meaningful engagement with the community through the Bishopbriggs Town Centre Forum as the redevelopment plans move forward."
