Community involvement in Bishopbriggs plans crucial - Jo

Jo has again called on officials to ensure that the redevelopment of Bishopbriggs town centre has the community's involvement at its heart.
Jo has asked that the Section 75 legal agreement which will incorporate community facilities into the site's design becomes available for public viewing, and that the new owners of the site, Morrisons Supermarkets, engage with Bishopbriggs residents throughout the progress of their plans.
Jo commented:
"Last Thursday I met with Muse, East Dunbartonshire Council and two of the Bishopbriggs Community Champions to discuss community involvement in the redevelopment plans following John Dickson's resignation from the Champions group.
"Following the sale of the site to Morrisons Supermarkets, which happened just before Christmas, Muse no longer has any involvement in the Bishopbriggs site. I have now asked the Council that the Section 75 legal agreement is made available for public viewing so people are informed about what has been agreed and how the site can work in the best interests of the Bishopbriggs community.
"I am also seeking an urgent meeting with Morrisons to discuss their involvement with the local community before they submit further, more detailed plans. Any new development must have sensitive design and build which will integrate well into the current town centre, and enhance rather than detract from the community feel of Bishopbriggs. Community involvement in the creation of the plans is crucial - a point which I made clear to the Council and will emphasise with Morrisons when I met with them."
