Reporter appointed to Tesco appeal

October 1, 2010 1:33 PM

Jo Swinson outside Tesco in MilngavieThe reporter appointed to decide on Tesco's appeal is a former director of National Trust for Scotland, it has emerged.

The Reporter, Trevor Croft, is expected to hold a meeting on 28th October to make arrangements for a public inquiry.

Commenting, Jo said:

"After four years as the Director of the National Trust, I hope the Reporter will have sufficient regard for both our natural environment and our historic buildings to see that Tesco's plans cannot be allowed to go ahead. Independent consultants have already confirmed that the store's expansion would have a negative impact on the landscape and said that a full environmental impact assessment must be carried out.

"However, local people will be understandably skeptical, as our recent experience suggests that the Scottish Government would rather let developers have their way than protect our environment and listen to local communities. I hope that Mr Croft will do right by the community and put a stop to Tesco's plans."

If you are a resident of the East Dunbartonshire constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
