Jo Swinson MP attended a Swap and Share event organised by Baldernock Cut the Carbon on Saturday.
The aim of the event, held at Baldernock Primary School, was to allow local people to bring along items they no longer wanted and exchange them for something they do want.
Re-using unwanted items prevents them from going into landfill as waste, and is cheaper and more efficient than recycling.
Baldernock Cut the Carbon hopes that it will become a regular event in the community.
Commenting, Jo Swinson said:
"Finding new homes for unwanted items is a brilliant way of helping the environment by reducing landfill waste. Not only that, but saves people the cost of buying new items.
"This was a brilliant idea by Baldernock Cut the Carbon and I'm very pleased that it is going to become a regular event. I hope it will also inspire others to organise similar events in their communities around East Dunbartonshire."
