Local high tech industry leading the way

Thales Graduate Jennifer Forrest with Jo Swinson MP and the SSARF surveillance cameraJo has paid a visit to Thales' Glasgow site to see the manufacture of cutting-edge optical equipment used by troops in Afghanistan.

During her visit, Jo saw the manufacture of high resolution reconnaissance cameras, designed to be fitted to fast jet plans. Jo also received a demonstration from one of the company's new graduate recruits of Thales' latest thermal imaging camera, which is currently being used by British troops in Afghanistan.

Sixty four of the Thales Glasgow staff live in East Dunbartonshire, more than in any other local area.

Commenting, Jo said:

"It's great news for the local economy that a world leading technology company like Thales has chosen to base a significant part of their operations here in Glasgow.
