Jo hails local lottery successes

August 2, 2010 10:19 AM

Jo has congratulated the Bishopbriggs Ceilidh Band and the Vaisakhi Da Mela Committee for securing nearly £12,000 of lottery funding.

Bishopbriggs Ceilidh Band has received a £1824 grant from the Scottish Arts Council. The group will use the money to buy instruments and equipment to stage their first concert.

The Vaisakhi Da Mela Committee received £10000 grant from the Big Lottery Fund to hold a concert celebrating the Sikh Vaisakhi festival, to take place in the Royal Festival Hall in Glasgow. The grant will cover the costs of 2 international artists as well as 4 or 5 local artists.

Commenting, Jo said:

"It's wonderful news that two excellent local organisations will be benefiting from this much sought after lottery funding.

"The Ceilidh Band offers a great opportunity for young people in Bishopbriggs to get involved in music. They sounded brilliant when I visited them in April and again at their well-attended ceilidh in June. I'm glad this money will give them the chance to continue their success.

"The Vaisakhi festival is a fantastic spectacle, and a very important date on the Sikh calendar. With the help of this grant I'm sure next year's will be better than ever.

"Many congratulations to the Vaisakhi Da Mela Committee and Bishopbriggs Ceilidh band for securing these awards."

Awards for All Scotland is supported by the Scottish Arts Council, sportscotland and the Big Lottery Fund. They award grants of between £500 and £10,000 for people to take part in art, sport, heritage and community activities, and projects that promote education, the environment and health in the local community.

If you are a resident of the East Dunbartonshire constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
