SNP have failed this generation of teachers

Jo and Ross Finnie MSP have expressed concern over the lack of jobs that await teachers in East Dunbartonshire on finishing their probation.
A study published yesterday by the Scottish Government shows 3,478 teachers were allocated a probationary year in 2009 but with only 354 teaching vacancies at present only around 10% of those finishing their probation year will find a teaching job when they qualify. In East Dunbartonshire there are currently 116 teachers in their probationary year and only 3 teaching vacancies at present in East Dunbartonshire.
Commenting, Jo said:
"These figures will be deeply concerning to newly qualified teachers in East Dunbartonshire, particularly with the possibility of school mergers or closures around the corner.
"Despite pledging to cut class sizes, the Scottish Government has somehow managed to train far more teachers than there are vacancies.
"The Scottish Government now owes an explanation to all those teachers who are now struggling to find work."
Commenting, Ross Finnie said:
"The majority of new teachers in East Dunbartonshire will be finishing their probationary year with very little hope of finding a teaching job locally.
"The Scottish Government have failed to keep their promise to maintain teacher numbers.
"The Education Secretary must respond to these horrendous figures and explain why the Scottish Government has created a lost generation of new teachers."
