Lenzie Academy wins BIG

June 1, 2010 12:00 AM

Jo has welcomed news that Lenzie Academy has been awarded £1,000 of sports funding from the National Lottery.

The award from the BIG Lottery fund will pay for 10 coaching kits, netball equipment and transportation.

Since Glasgow's successful bid to host the 2014 Commonwealth Games, communities across Scotland are being encouraged to apply for lottery funding to create their own sporting legacy.

Commenting, Jo said:

"I am delighted that Lenzie Academy will be receiving this £1,000 award. It is really important that the Glasgow Games provide lasting opportunities for people get involved in sport, especially children, and this scheme is doing a great job of ensuring that. Congratulations to all those involved in securing the award."

2014 Communities is a new micro grants programme, offering local sports clubs, voluntary and community organisations, community councils and schools grants of £300 to £2,000 to support and stimulate grass roots involvement in sport and physical activity. The scheme will continue to operate up to the Glasgow Commonwealth Games in 2014.

If you are a resident of the East Dunbartonshire constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
