Coalition delivering for East Dunbartonshire

May 24, 2010 10:34 AM

Jo has today highlighted the benefits of the new coalition agreement for the people of East Dunbartonshire.

The coalition's 'Programme for Government', launched this week, includes commitments to protect and revitalise Post Offices, create thousands of green jobs, and to restore the link between pensions and earnings.

The new agreement also includes plans to increase the tax free allowance to £10,000, saving the average family £700 on their tax bills. The coalition will also establish a high speed rail network for the whole of Britain, and introduce measures to ensure the rapid roll-out of superfast broadband across the country.

Commenting, Jo said:

"People in East Dunbartonshire will find a large number of Liberal Democrat manifesto pledges in this coalition agreement which will be of huge benefit to them.

"Our plans to reform the income tax system, so that no one pays tax on the first £10,000 they earn, will make a big difference to people on low and middle incomes by putting an extra £700 in their pockets each year.

"Older people in East Dunbartonshire will see their pensions rise in line with average incomes for the first time in over twenty years.

"The agreement will also help to secure the future of our much-valued local Post Offices, allowing them to offer a wider range of services, and potentially creating a new Post Office Bank. Along with high speed rail and superfast broadband, these are just a few of the many ways in which people in East Dunbartonshire benefit from this agreement."

If you are a resident of the East Dunbartonshire constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
