Lib Dems celebrate election campaign launch

April 9, 2010 4:16 PM

Jo Swinson talking to Nick Clegg at the Scottish campaign launchJo joined Nick Clegg and Tavish Scott in Glasgow yesterday for the launch of the Scottish Liberal Democrats' General Election campaign.

Nick Clegg and the Liberal Democrats launched the campaign from Pacific Quay in Glasgow on Thursday.

Commenting, Jo said:

"After thirteen years, the country is tired of Labour's empty promises. The Liberal Democrats have set out clear demands - we want fairer taxes, a greener economy, reform of Parliament and a fair start for every child.

"I am looking forward to a lively campaign over the next four weeks. It has been an honour to serve the people of East Dunbartonshire for the past five years and I hope to continue to do so for many years to come."

Nick Clegg said:

"In this election, the choice for Scots is clear. Vote for Liberal Democrats who will bring about real change and build a fairer Scotland, or stick by a failing Labour Party that long since abandoned you.

"The SNP cannot make a difference at Westminster, and in Scotland the Tories aren't in the game, but the Liberal Democrats are set to make gains across Scotland.

"We start this election second only to Labour and we have them in our sights. Fairer taxes, political reform, a sustainable economy. This is the change we offer Scotland."

Liberal Democrat Council Group Spokesperson Ashay Ghai said:

"Jo Swinson has been a real local champion, and has a great track record of getting things done on the issues that matter locally. Jo has been an extremely hard working MP, and whether it's on Post Office closures, school bus cuts or the Kilmardinny or Bishopbriggs town centre developments, she stands up strongly for the people of East Dunbartonshire."

If you are a resident of the East Dunbartonshire constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
