Jo pays tribute to local lottery winners

Jo has welcomed the news that Deafblind Scotland and East Dunbartonshire Council have been successful in securing funding from the National Lottery.

Deafblind Scotland in Kirkintilloch has received £53,629 from Big Lottery Fund's recession package. The money will go towards the 'Touching Lives Across the Generations' project, enabling Deafblind people to become trainers and deliver awareness-raising and educational sessions to the local community.

East Dunbartonshire Council has also received £30,000 from the National Lottery for its 'Positive Alternatives' project, which provides classes for young people in employment skills, positive life skills and teaches them about healthy lifestyles.

Commenting, Jo said:

"I'm thrilled to hear that Deafblind Scotland and East Dunbartonshire Council have been successful securing these grants. The 'Touching Lives Across Generations' project is excellent way of providing people with new skills and raising awareness in the community of this often-overlooked group of people.''

"At a time when unemployment continues to rise in East Dunbartonshire, the 'Positive Alternatives' will help provide young people with vital skills and knowledge to secure their futures. In the midst of a recession, it is pleasing to see worthy causes get the funding they deserve."
