Jo among 'most influential young female politicians'

March 4, 2010 12:23 PM

Jo Swinson MP has been named one of the most influential young female politicians by Red Magazine.

Red Magazine has announced its '20 Under 30 Hot List' which showcases the youngest and most talented female professionals under thirty in Britain today. Jo, described as 'The Political Dynamo', was named amongst the three most influential young female politicians that are shaping our futures.

Amongst the others in this category were Conservative MP Chloe Smith and Labour's Maryam Khan. Rising stars were also selected from theatre, media, business, the environment, food, technology, fashion, the voluntary sector and social enterprise.

Commenting, Red's Editor-in-Chief Sam Baker said:

"The achievements of the political entrants within 'Red's 20 under 30 Hot List' have been remarkable, with these three women paving the way for more young women to be inspired by politics. Liberal Democrat Jo Swinson MP has a voice to be heard. She is renowned for speaking up on national issues that other MPs shy away from."

Commenting, Nick Clegg, leader of the Liberal Democrats said:

"The passion, dedication and conviction Jo brings to her work are a perfect antidote to the frustration people are feeling towards politicians."

Commenting, Jo Swinson said:

"I am delighted to have been named amongst the most influential young female politicians. For too long, Parliament has been dominated by middle-aged men and it is high time there were more women and more young MPs in the House of Commons. I hope highlighting the achievements of young MPs will inspire more young people to get involved in politics."

If you are a resident of the East Dunbartonshire constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
