Jo "doing her bit" for British Armed Forces

February 9, 2010 12:22 PM

Jo meeting with the Royal British Legion delegation in ParliamentJo has been thanked for pledging to do her bit for the British Armed Forces family.

Jo recently met with a delegation from the Royal British Legion at Westminster to support the charity's call for General Election candidates of all parties to support the whole Armed Forces family.

The Royal British Legion is calling on the next Government to improve conditions for British servicemen and women past and present and their families. It encourages MPs and Parliamentary candidates to "do their bit" for service personnel and their families, the bereaved, veterans and dependants.

Commenting, Jo said:

"I was really pleased to pledge to do my bit for our servicemen and women. The work the Royal British Legion does for the whole Armed Forces family is extremely valuable. I have met a great many members of the Armed Forces past and present in East Dunbartonshire, and I know the whole community is proud and grateful for their service to our country.

"I am encouraging everyone to visit the Royal British Legion's website at www.timetodoyourbit.org.uk to find out how you can get involved in their campaign to get better support for the people who have done so much for us."

Kevin Shinkwin, the Royal British Legion's Head of Public Affairs, said:

"We're really grateful to Jo Swinson for pledging to do her bit. The entire Armed Forces family needs the support of politicians from all parties, and our manifesto outlines practical ways the next government can help. We hope all the parties will give it serious consideration and that every MP will pledge to do their bit."

If you are a resident of the East Dunbartonshire constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
