Bishopbriggs Academy's lottery win

February 1, 2010 11:08 AM

Jo has welcomed the news that Bishopbriggs Academy has been awarded £1,000 from the Big Lottery Fund.

Bishopbriggs Academy has been awarded a £1,000 grant from the '2014 Communities' programme which aims to encourage greater community cohesion in the run up to the 2014 Commonwealth Games. The grant will enable Bishopbriggs Academy to help 15 S3 pupils to participate in The National Indoor Climbing Achievement Scheme, a structured, instructor led course designed to motivate young climbers with no previous climbing experience.

Commenting, Jo said:

"A big congratulations to Bishopbriggs Academy securing this grant. I'm sure participating in the Indoor Climbing Achievement Scheme will be a really fun way for pupils to keep fit, and I look forward to hearing about how they get on.

"I hope Bishopbriggs Academy's success will inspire other projects in East Dunbartonshire which promote sport and physical activity to apply for these grants in the run up to the 2014 Commonwealth Games."

2014 Communities is a new micro grants programme, offering local sports clubs, voluntary and community organisations, community councils and schools grants of £300 to £1,000 to support and stimulate grass roots involvement in sport and physical activity. The scheme will continue to operate up to the Glasgow Commonwealth Games in 2014.

If you are a resident of the East Dunbartonshire constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
