Jo supports residents group against Tesco expansion

January 18, 2010 12:15 PM

Jo addressed a public meeting on Thursday night organised by residents opposed to the expansion of Tesco in Milngavie.

The meeting was organised by Milngavie resident Eve Gilmore, who is campaigning against Tesco's proposals to expand their store in Milngavie. Jo expressed her support for the group and presented the results of her recent opinion survey on the issue.

Milngavie residents attending the meeting expressed concern at the impact the development would have on local traders, the River Allander and wildlife in the area. Most people feel that the current Tesco store is adequate for the needs of the community and the expansion is unnecessary.

Commenting, Jo said:

"Thursday night's meeting was very well attended, and I am delighted that Eve Gilmore has set up this steering group to make representations on behalf of local people who are concerned about the expansion of Tesco in Milngavie.

"My recent survey showed that Milngavie residents are overwhelmingly opposed to the development, and it is important that Tesco and East Dunbartonshire Council actively listen to what local people are telling them.

"It was suggested that a public meeting should be held with representatives from Tesco and planning officials from East Dunbartonshire Council, and I whole-heartedly support that suggestion."

If you are a resident of the East Dunbartonshire constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
