Jo welcomes new regional boundary proposals

January 15, 2010 10:32 AM

Jo has welcomed the revised Boundary Commission proposals for the Scottish Parliament regions, which would keep all of East Dunbartonshire in the West of Scotland region.

The first Commission review - which proposed that East Dunbartonshire be moved to Central Scotland - had been met with strong local resistance but following representation by the Liberal Democrats amongst others this decision has been reversed.

Commenting, Jo said:

"I am extremely pleased that the views of local people have been listened to as supported by the Liberal Democrats from the beginning. I had real concerns over the counter proposals put forward by the Labour Party, keeping Clydebank & Milngavie constituency in the West while moving Strathkelvin & Bearsden to Central Scotland, and was shocked that at the local inquiry stage the Scottish Labour General Secretary supported splitting Bearsden into separate Scottish regions."

Bearsden South Councillor, Ashay Ghai added:

"This is a victory for common sense. Under the Labour proposal those walking across Roman Road in Bearsden would have been crossing different Scottish regions in political terms."

If you are a resident of the East Dunbartonshire constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
