December 11, 2009 3:38 PM

Jo with winners Lydia and Jillian at Bishopbriggs AcademyJo visited Bishopbriggs Academy and Lenzie Moss Primary School today to give prizes to the winners of her Christmas Card competition.

Jo with runners-up at Lenzie Moss Primary SchoolThis year's winning design was drawn by Lydia Petersen, while the winning poem was written by Jillian Harley, both S3 pupils at Bishopbriggs Academy. Jo presented them both with £20 book tokens donated by Milngavie Book Shop. She also paid a visit to Lenzie Moss Primary School to present £10 book tokens to three runners-up.

The theme of this year's competition was "Christmas and the Environment", and Lydia Petersen's winning design pictured a snowy scene while Jillian Harley's poem described the plight of a polar bear living on the receding Arctic ice. The cards are now being sent to 1,800 groups and individuals across East Dunbartonshire. Everyone who entered the competition will receive a certificate of appreciation.

The winning design by Lydia PetersenCommenting, Jo said:

"I received more than 500 entries and was very impressed with the high standard yet again this year. The theme of 'Christmas and the Environment' inspired some very thoughtful and creative artwork and many excellent poems.

"Congratulations to Lydia and Jillian and to all of the runners-up, and thank you to everyone who took part. The card is looking wonderful and I hope the winners will be pleased with how it has turned out."

If you are a resident of the East Dunbartonshire constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
