Locals to have their say on Glasgow Airport noise

December 1, 2009 6:53 PM

Jo is encouraging local residents to have their say on Glasgow Airport's new noise insulation scheme.

Glasgow Airport is proposing a new noise insulation scheme and community redevelopment scheme, details of which were outlined in a public consultation yesterday. Communities close to the airport flight path will be consulted on the plans, and Jo is encouraging anyone in East Dunbartonshire who is concerned about airport noise to submit their views.

In 2007, Jo backed a Parliamentary motion calling for Glasgow Airport to offer the same noise protection for local residents as is provided for people living close to London airports. This scheme aims to do that.

The Noise Insulation Scheme will help to provide double glazing for properties within the most affected areas, while the 'Flightpath Fund' would contribute £150,000 to community regeneration in 2010. Membership of the Flightpath Fund will include community representatives East Dunbartonshire, giving local people a greater say in how Glasgow Airport's community fund is spent.

Commenting, Jo said:

"Many constituents have contacted me to express their concern at the level of noise they experience when planes fly over their homes, and I have made several representations to their airport on their behalf.

"I welcome the fact that Glasgow Airport is considering the needs of local residents in minimising aircraft noise, and I would urge anyone who is affected by the noise to make their views about the proposals known through the public consultation."

There are several ways to take part in the consultation:

The deadline for submissions is 31 January 2010.

If you are a resident of the East Dunbartonshire constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
