Jo congratulates local lottery success

November 3, 2009 11:00 AM

Jo has welcomed the news that Lenzie Woodhead Gymnastics Club and Boclair Academy have been awarded grants from the Big Lottery Fund.

Lenzie Woodhead Gymnastics Club has been awarded a £990 grant from the '2014 Communities' programme which aims to encourage greater community cohesion in the run up to the 2014 Commonwealth Games. The project meets the 2014 Communities aim of ensuring 'more people take part in sport or physical activity' and 'more people volunteer in sport or physical activity'. The grant will fund a notice board for the club, a UK Coaching Certificate coaching course, a competition standard springboard and a push on safety mat.

Boclair Academy has been awarded a £1,000 grant from the '2014 Communities' programme. The school's boxercise and fitness programmes meet the 2014 Communities aim of ensuring 'more people take part in sport or physical activity'. The grant will fund boxercise gloves, boxercise pads, punch bags and advertising posters.

2004 Communities is the first scheme in Scotland to make funding available for community groups and organisations to build a legacy from the 2014 Commonwealth Games. As the second anniversary of Glasgow's successful bid to host the 2014 Commonwealth Games draws near, communities across Scotland are being encouraged to apply for Lottery funding to create their own sporting legacy.

Commenting, Jo said:

"I'm delighted that Lenzie Woodhead Gymnastics Club and Boclair Academy have been successful in securing these awards. They both play an important role in helping young people to lead active, healthy lives and they should be commended - well done to everyone involved. I hope other grassroots projects which promote sport and physical activity will be encouraged to apply for these grants in the run up to the 2014 Commonwealth Games."

If you are a resident of the East Dunbartonshire constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
