Douglas Academy opens new premises

October 8, 2009 10:50 AM

This week Jo attended the official opening of the new premises of her former school, Douglas Academy.

Although pupils returned for the start of the school year at the new premises in August, the official opening of the new site happened this week, and Jo went along to see the new buildings for the first time.

Those attending the launch were treated to a tour of the new premises, speeches by the Head Teacher, Seamus Black, Head of Education for East Dunbartonshire, Gordon Currie and Provost Eric Gotts. Guests also enjoyed musical entertainment, including a performance of Dvorak's New World Symphany Movement 1 by the Douglas Academy First Orchestra and Vivaldi's Gloria by the Senior Choir.

Commenting, Jo said:

"The new school site is looking fantastic, and I thought the acoustics in the new main hall were great. The First Orchestra and the Senior Choir were sounding lovely, and I was also given a very informative tour of the new site by some of the pupils. Of course I had a slight wave of nostalgia for the old school, but the new facilities are looking brilliant and I am sure they will be of great benefit to the school. Congratulations to all the staff and pupils at Douglas Academy on their new home."

If you are a resident of the East Dunbartonshire constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
