Jo calls for Public Hearing on town centre plans

October 7, 2009 3:22 PM

Bishopbriggs Town Centre mapJo has called for a Public Hearing on the planning application for the redevelopment of Bishopbriggs Town Centre.

Following the submission of a planning application by Muse Developments for the redevelopment of Bishopbriggs Town Centre, Jo is calling on East Dunbartonshire Council to hold a Public Hearing to hear local people's views on the plans.

At a meeting of the Council's Planning Board last week it was decided that a visit to the site would take place on 27th October as part of the board's deliberations over the application.

Commenting, Jo said:

"This is a very important planning application which will affect the lives of everyone in Bishopbriggs, therefore it is of the utmost importance that those people get every opportunity to have their say on the matter.

"I am surprised that the Councillors for Bishopbriggs did not call for a Public Hearing when they requested a site visit. This redevelopment will be the biggest change in Bishopbriggs for a generation, and it would be outrageous for the Planning Board to make a decision without having given the people of Bishopbriggs this chance to air their views. That is why I am calling on the six Councillors for Bishopbriggs to request a Public Hearing at the soonest available opportunity."

Jo has written to the following Councillors urging them to call for a Public Hearing:

Councillor Alan Moir

Councillor Anne McNair

Councillor Billy Hendry

Councillor Gordan Low

Councillor Michael O'Donnell

Councillor Una Walker

Bishopbriggs Town Centre Development

Following the decision of last week's meeting of the Council Planning Board that a site visit would take place on Tuesday 27th October as part of the Board's consideration of the application from Muse Developments for the redevelopment of Bishopbriggs Town Centre, I would also urge you to call on the Planning Board to hold a Public Hearing on these plans.

As a representative of the people of Bishopbriggs, I am sure that you recognise the importance of this application to our constituents. No doubt you, like me, have received many representations from local people expressing their views on the content of this application, and you will be concerned to ensure that these views are given due consideration when the Planning Board decides whether or not to grant the application.

The people of Bishopbriggs deserve the opportunity to have their say on the developers' proposals. With a planning application as important as this one, it is vital that all those people who will be affected by it are able to make their views known directly to the Planning Board. I hope you will agree that calling for a Public Hearing is therefore the right course of action in this case.

Thank you for your assistance in this matter, and I look forward to working with you further on this matter as the application proceeds.

Yours sincerely,

Jo Swinson MP

If you are a resident of the East Dunbartonshire constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
