McGavigans goes into administration

Jo has expressed concern for employees at John McGavigan Ltd, which has gone into administration.

The firm, which manufactures interior design products for the car industry, employs 135 people in its factory in Bishopbriggs. It has announced this week that 11 employees will be made redundant, but the company is continuing to trade while the search for a buyer is underway.

Commenting, Jo said:

"It is a great shame that McGavigans is going into receivership, as the company has been an established part of the economy of East Dunbartonshire for almost 150 years.

"This will be a difficult time for the 11 employees who have been made redundant, as well as other employees whose future is insecure.

"I am seeking an urgent meeting with the management at McGavigans and the administrators KPMG who are now taking over, to find out what support will be provided for staff during this period of uncertainty."

Blair Nimmo, of administrators KPMG, said:

"McGavigan is a well established company and a key supplier to many tier 1 manufacturers in the automotive sector.

"We hope to continue working with the company's suppliers, customers and its experienced workforce while a sale of the business is pursued.

"Any interested parties should contact the joint administrators as soon as possible."
