Jo congratulates Carers Link over lottery success

July 6, 2009 5:23 PM

Jo has welcomed the news that Carers link in East Dunbartonshire have secured lottery funding.

The organisation applied to the Big Lottery Fund's Investing in Communities and was awarded a total of £264, 424. The money will be used to fund the Peer Support for Older Carers project for the next 5 years.

The project aims to provide information, advocacy and emotional support to the 750 people who act as carers in East Dunbartonshire. The support aims to increase the confidence and skills of older carers, making them better equipped to cope with the challenges of caring. It is also hoped that the project will help to identify hidden carers and reduce their isolation by linking them to available support and other services.

Across Scotland 20 projects will benefit from an investment of £4,858,535 from the Big Lottery Fund, the largest of the National Lottery good cause distributors.

Commenting, Jo said:

"I am delighted that Carers Link in East Dunbartonshire has received this grant. The invaluable work that carers do in communities across the country too often goes unrecognised and that is why organisations such as Carers Link are so important. The support they provide makes a huge difference to the wellbeing of hundreds of carers in East Dunbartonshire and I am very pleased that this grant will enable them to continue to provide such an excellent support service."

"Congratulations to all those involved in securing the funding."

If you are a resident of the East Dunbartonshire constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
