Jo Swinson MP opened the new Centre of Excellence at Aviva in Bishopbriggs today.
Aviva's call handling centre in Bishopbriggs has become one of the company's eight Centres of Excellence. The Bishopbriggs centre was chosen on account of its excellent skills base, and Jo Swinson was invited to cut the ribbon to open the new centre. It opening also marks 'A-Day' - the day that Norwich Union officially becomes Aviva - and a tree was planted to mark the occasion.
The day also featured a whole host of fundraising events for cancer charity Marie Curie, including a Scalectrix Grand Prix, a Nintendo Wii golf tournament and a chance to adopt a duck for Glasgow River Festival's Great Glasgow Duck Race. Funds will go towards the charity's Big Build appeal, which aims to raise £16.1 million to build a new Marie Curie Hospice in Glasgow which will offer state-of-the-art care.
Commenting, Jo Swinson said:
"I was very impressed to hear that Aviva Bishopbriggs has been recognised for the skills and talent of its staff, and delighted to be asked to go along and open the new centre.
"Planting a tree was a lovely way to mark the occasion and good for the environment too. I hope today's fundraising day raised lots of money for the Big Build appeal as well being great fun."
