Jo urges community groups to support sports hall

May 14, 2009 12:00 PM

Cllr Margaret McNaughton and Jo Swinson MP outside the sports hallJo has welcomed new proposals from Muse Developments and is calling on community groups to help keep the sports hall standing in Bishopbriggs.

Muse Developments, the company responsible for the redevelopment of Bishopbriggs town centre, has released revised proposals, which now include an 'option 2' to retain the school sports hall for community use. The developers had planned to demolish the building, but came up with this option in response to strong local feeling against the move.

A steering group of local community organisations who have volunteered to keep the sports hall running have been asked to put forward a business plan. They are now calling on any groups or individuals who would be interested in using the hall to come forward, in order to show Muse that the plan is viable.

Commenting, Jo said:

"I am really pleased that Muse have included this option in their latest proposals, as my survey of local residents showed that an overwhelming majority are in favour of retaining the sports hall.

"I have met with Ruth Box, the organiser of the steering group which hopes to run the sports hall, and I have received a copy of their business plan, which looks impressive. It is important that all the people who came along to the public consultations and expressed a desire to keep the sports hall now get in touch to let the group know how and when they would use it. They should contact Ruth on 0141 772 4283 or by emailing admin@woodhillevangelical.org.uk"

If you are a resident of the East Dunbartonshire constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
