"Sparklyn" new business success

April 27, 2009 12:00 PM

On Saturday Jo attended the launch party of the new "Sparklyn" jewellery shop in Huntershill Village.

Lynn McEwan, who taught herself to make jewellery has a hobby, left her job as a personal development trainer in 2007 to turn her artistic talents into a full-time career. Her business, Sparklyn, which sells handmade jewellery online through its website, has gone from strength to strength, so much so that Lynn has moved it to the shop floor.

The shop in Huntershill Village boasts a children's party room, which is already being booked up for parties where children are taught to make jewellery themselves. There is also a wedding room, where Lynn has already had happy couples visiting to pick out jewellery for their big day.

Commenting, Jo said:

"The shop looks absolutely lovely, and I'm really excited for Lynn. It is really encouraging to know that even during an economic downturn, a small business like Sparklyn is able to grow and prosper. I wish her the best of the luck in her new place and hope the business keeps coming in."

Lynn, a single parent, says it has been tough setting up her own business but she has had plenty of support along the way:

"The amount of interest I've had since I opened the doors has been overwhelming. I've had six parties booked and three wedding consultations so I'm really excited about the future. I think the fact that it's affordable, especially at the moment, makes a big difference. I think I'll be really happy here, and the company will go from strength to strength."

If you are a resident of the East Dunbartonshire constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
