SPS must publish prison name suggestions

April 24, 2009 6:00 PM

Jo is urging the Scottish Prison Service to publish the recommendations made by the NSCJA for a new name for the prison on the site of HMP Low Moss.

Today was the deadline for NSCJA Convenor Councillor Douglas Yates to respond to the SPS's request for suggestions for a new name for the prison. Jo has spoken to Councillor Yates, who could not reveal the three suggestions he will put forward on behalf of the NSCJA. However he did give assurances that the NSCJA would take into account the strong feelings of local residents on the matter.

Commenting, Jo said:

"I sent the NSCJA a list of around 3000 names of local residents who have signed my petition against the working title, and I am pleased that they have agreed to take this into account. The SPS must now publish the three suggested names from the NSCJA, and engage with the local community as it has promised to do, to reach a conclusion which is acceptable to all concerned."

If you are a resident of the East Dunbartonshire constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.

    • If you agree, Jo Swinson, the Liberal Democrats, and their elected representatives may use the information you provide to contact you about issues you may find of interest. Some of the contacts may be automated. You can opt out of these contacts at any time by contacting us.
