Jo takes 'Time Out' with the kids

March 26, 2009 7:00 PM

Jo visited 'Time Out' club in Milngavie today to find out how they are managing after-school care.

As part of the 'Time Out' club, children are collected from Milngavie Primary School by a walking bus, which then takes them to Milngavie CE Centre for an activity club run by local parents. There they are able to use the facilities within the CE Centre, including the library and gym.

'Time Out' has been running for 19 years, and is one of the few after-school care services in East Dunbartonshire which is run not-for-profit by parents and a small staff. It now encompasses three projects and is used by over 200 families. A fourth project will be launched in August to collect children from Clober Primary School.

Commenting, Jo said:

"'Time Out' is a great scheme for busy parents, especially those who work full time and may find having a service that collects the children from school makes life much easier. The walking bus is also a great way of reducing congestion on the roads during the afternoon school run, saving money and helping the environment at the same time. It's clear the kids are having lots of fun, so it's a win-win situation for everyone."

'Time Out' manager Celeste Gilbey said:

"It was very nice to meet Jo and the children really enjoyed it. It is nice to see a Member of Parliament really being part of the community."

Time Out Club is a registered charity run by a Voluntary Board of Directors who are parents that utilise the service.

Time Out Milngavie runs until 6pm Monday to Friday during term time.

If you are a resident of the East Dunbartonshire constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
