Never a better time to holiday in Scotland

March 30, 2009 12:35 PM

Jo Swinson MP and Ross Finnie MSP at Kirkintilloch MarinaJo and Ross Finnie MSP visited Kirkintilloch Marina and Auld Kirk Museum on Friday to celebrate British Tourism Week.

Kirkintilloch is branded the "Canal capital of Scotland", and the new 40-berth Marina at Southbank harks back to the town's history, marking the first time there has been water in a marina at Southbank since the 1960s. Auld Kirk Museum is home to items and photographs from local, as well as national history.

British Tourism Week aims to raise awareness and promote tourism to and within Britain. With the value of the pound having recently hit its lowest level since 1985, holidays at home are looking more and more appealing.

Commenting, Jo said:

"Many people will be taking holidays in Britain this year to save money rather than going abroad, and it's a great opportunity to enjoy some of the wonderful sights this country has to offer. East Dunbartonshire is a beautiful part of the world, and with attractions like the Marina, Auld Kirk Museum and Mugdock Country Park there is plenty to see and do here."

Ross Finnie said:

"We want to highlight some of the fantastic tourist attractions that exist in East Dunbartonshire, like the Auld Kirk Museum and Kirkintilloch Marina. These are just two of the fine examples of what East Dunbartonshire has to offer tourists visiting the West of Scotland.

"The journey through time in the Auld Kirk Museum, which shows the journey of Kirkintilloch from the Roman times to the present day, is a prime example of an East Dunbartonshire tourist attraction that can be enjoyed by all the family.

"The Scottish Tourism Board and VisitScotland must recognise the fantastic potential East Dunbartonshire has to become a real tourist hotspot."

If you are a resident of the East Dunbartonshire constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
