Swinson supports Youth Leading the Way

March 10, 2009 5:00 PM

Jo attended the launch at the Kirkintilloch campus of Cumbernauld College yesterday of a project to train young volunteers to be mentors for young people.

Youth Leading the Way is a mentoring project funded by the Big Lottery Fund for young people aged 14 - 25 living in East Dunbartonshire. It is run by the Volunteer Centre East Dunbartonshire, who have jointly developed a course with Cumbernauld College to train young volunteers as Mentors. The Mentors will assist other young people in achieving goals, improving their self-confidence and preventing anti-social behaviour by encouraging them into volunteering. The Volunteer Centre is also looking to offer the course to other organisations, which is delivered at the East Dunbartonshire Campus of Further & Higher Education, Kirkintilloch.

Commenting, Jo Swinson said:

"Volunteering is a great thing for young people to do, as it helps to expand their horizons and gain life experience as well as being something to put on their CV. The young volunteers I met were all really enthusiastic, and that they're getting the opportunity to help other young people makes it all the more worthwhile."

If you are a resident of the East Dunbartonshire constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.

    • If you agree, Jo Swinson, the Liberal Democrats, and their elected representatives may use the information you provide to contact you about issues you may find of interest. Some of the contacts may be automated. You can opt out of these contacts at any time by contacting us.
