100 job losses in Bishopbriggs a heavy blow to local economy

February 11, 2009 7:16 PM

Aviva, the rebranded Norwich Union, has announced plans to close the RAC breakdown call centre in Bishopbriggs, with the loss of around 100 jobs. The RAC service operates from the Aviva call centre in Bishopbriggs, which opened two years ago and employs around 1000 people.

Commenting on the news, Jo said:

"This will come as a heavy blow to RAC employees in Bishopbriggs. Just 18 months ago the team was busier than ever, with staff having to work overtime to keep up, and now the whole department is set to close.

It is vital that Aviva works hard to support all of those affected, ideally to find new positions within the Bishopbriggs call centre. I will be meeting with Aviva management next week to discuss these issues."

If you are a resident of the East Dunbartonshire constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
