Jo urges constituents to report poor services this Christmas

December 19, 2008 5:10 PM

Jo Swinson has urged constituents to report faulty goods or poor services received over the Christmas period to a special advice hotline provided by Consumer Direct.

Jo recommended the Consumer Direct hotline (08454 04 05 06) to East Dunbartonshire residents and suggested it as first point of contact for any complaints over faulty goods or services.

Jo said:

"Over the festive period, it is particularly important that consumers know who to contact if they receive faulty goods or poor services. I recommend that everyone use the Consumer Direct hotline as their first port of call to report any problems this Christmas.

"Residents across East Dunbartonshire need to be wary of scams and dodgy traders. The consumer advice hotline is an effective tool in the fight against dishonest companies and other traders at Christmas time and right through the year.

"Consumer Direct offers first-rate advice to consumers but it is also there to support local authorities in meeting their objectives. Local Trading Standards Officers receive information that is reported by consumers and can then go on to investigate the scams and rogue practices that ultimately weaken consumer and business confidence.

"Over the Christmas period, if anyone is unhappy with their purchases and have an issue that they cannot resolve, they should contact Consumer Direct on 08454 04 05 06 or visit the website on www.consumerdirect.gov.uk."

If you are a resident of the East Dunbartonshire constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
