Jo urges support for Flexible Ducting workforce

Flexible Ducting is set to close in the first half of next year

Jo Swinson has called for extensive support to be given to the staff of Flexible Ducting.

Jo discussed the situation facing the Milngavie plant with the Director of Flexible Ducting's UK parent company and member of its Board of Management today.

Commenting, Jo Swinson said:

"In an discussion with one of Flexible Ducting's Directors, I reinforced the need for staff to be given every support possible, particularly given the unkind timing of this situation in the run up to Christmas.

"The closure of Flexible Ducting will come as a huge blow to the workforce and everyone associated with the company.

"Employees are to be given one to one support to help them through the difficult period ahead. This will be very important as they look at options for retraining or employment elsewhere.

"I am making arrangements to speak to the American Directors of Flexible Ducting's parent company, to impress upon them the need to make the needs of their workforce in Milngavie the priority as of now.

"This is a stark demonstration of the real cost of the economic crisis on ordinary individuals and families."
