Green pupils a credit to Millersneuk Primary

November 20, 2008 3:05 PM

Jo Swinson has praised pupils at Millersneuk Primary in Lenzie for their efforts at promoting environmental awareness within the school.

Visiting the school today, Jo spoke to Primary 7 pupils and heard about the steps that the school is taking to achieve Green Flag status through the eco-schools Scotland programme.

Commenting after the visit, Jo said:

"Pupils at Millersneuk are showing green thinking at an early age, which is very encouraging. They are engaged in environmental issues like recycling, monitoring of energy use and participation in the school's eco-committee.

"I was treated to an enthusiastic performance of the school's 'eco song' by the Primary 7 pupils. Sung to the tune of the Proclaimers' '500 Miles', the words were written by one of the Primary 4 pupils, whose alternative lyrics won a writing competition run by the school's eco-committee.

"This generation of children will be faced with the effects of climate change as they grow up. It is vital that they are taught about the need to protect our environment at an early age, and I am pleased to see that that is the case at Millersneuk Primary."

If you are a resident of the East Dunbartonshire constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
