The winning design will be sent out to 1,800 local groups and individuals

The winning pupils in Jo Swinson Christmas Card design and poetry competition have been announced.

The Christmas design competition, to be printed on the front of the card, was won by Paul Rodriguez, in S1 at Turnbull High School. The top prize in the Christmas poetry competition was shared jointly between Beth Cairns, P5 at Killermont Primary, and Laura Murrie, P7 at Lairdsland Primary.

The winning entries were chosen by local author Phyl Wright and artist Gillian Price, from over 800 entries submitted by primary and secondary pupils across East Dunbartonshire.

Paul's cover design and the winning poem will be printed on Jo's 2008 Christmas Cards, along with the runner up entries, and sent to 1,800 groups and individuals across East Dunbartonshire.

Commenting on the judges' decision, Jo said:

"My warmest congratulations to the winners and the competition runners up. I'm sure the pictures and poems will look fantastic printed on my 2008 Christmas card. With the card being sent out to 1,800 local groups and individuals, many others will be able to enjoy their talents as well.

"This year's competition had a 'Christmas around the world' theme, which really allowed pupils from schools across East Dunbartonshire to show off their artistic and poetic talents.

"I'm sure the competition judges will testify what a difficult job they had in choosing a winner. All of the pupils who took part will receive a certificate of appreciation for their hard work."

Prizes for the competition have been kindly donated by Milngavie Bookshop. The winners will each be awarded a £20 book token.

If you are a resident of the East Dunbartonshire constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
