Jo seeks feedback on credit crunch effects

Food prices have risen by 26% in the past year, putting a strain on many families

Jo Swinson is asking East Dunbartonshire residents how they are coping with the effects of the credit crunch, rising food prices and housing market chaos.

In conjunction with East Dunbartonshire Liberal Democrats, Jo is in the process of sending out 'Cost of Living' surveys to the 32,000 households in the constituency.

The survey asks a series of questions, including:

  • The impact of rising food prices
  • The effect of the 10p tax fiasco
  • The challenge of rising energy prices

Jo said:

"Hard-pressed families and individuals are all too aware of the effects of the economic downturn we are experiencing. Whether making mortgage payments or trips to the supermarket, people can't avoid being caught up in the current economic downturn.

"Anecdotal evidence of the effects of the credit crunch are easy to come by, but I want to build up a complete, accurate picture of how people in East Dunbartonshire are being affected. That's why I am asking people to complete and return the surveys that they should find coming through their doors in the near future.

"The Liberal Democrats have always made it our priority to listen to people and solve problems starting at a local level. Labour's centralising agenda has failed to protect people against the effects of the credit crunch and rising food prices. Tackling these challenges must be first and foremost about listening to people".

If you are a resident of the East Dunbartonshire constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
