Jo critical of flood study delay

Jo met with Annan Drive residents recently to discuss flooding issues

Jo Swinson has criticised East Dunbartonshire Council for delays in producing a study into flooding in the Annan Drive / Conon Avenue area of Bearsden.

East Dunbartonshire Council is developing a Drainage Area Model that will be used to draw up drainage proposals to tackle the local flooding faced by residents. According to correspondence recently received by Jo, the Council is not able to say when the study will be completed.

Jo said:

"Residents of Annan Drive and Conon Avenue have had their patience tested waiting for the Council to bring forward a plan on the local flooding that is such a cause of worry for them. Now it looks like their wait is set to continue, as the Council does not appear to know when the drainage model that will inform their proposals will be completed.

"As well as the floods that have struck in the past, a flood report commissioned by Crudens has stated that there is a risk of future flooding in the area. Residents face the double uncertainly of not knowing when the flooding will return or when the Council will take action to help them.

"12 months ago, residents were told that "in the near future", the Council would be putting forward a set of drainage proposals for consultation with residents. It will surely anger residents that things do not appear to have moved forward in the past year. East Dunbartonshire Council must act with a lot more urgency to speed up this project, get the plans drawn up and put them forward for consultation."

If you are a resident of the East Dunbartonshire constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
