Jo welcomes Queen to Katrine Water Project opening

July 3, 2008 4:35 PM

Jo Swinson has welcomed today's opening of the Katrine Water Project by HM Queen Elizabeth.

Scottish Water's £120 million flagship project at Milngavie reservoirs has been under construction since 2004. The completed project will supply drinking water to 700,000 people in and around Glasgow.

Jo said:

"The opening of the Katrine Water Project is a great occasion for water-based engineering, as well as a wonderful opportunity to welcome Her Majesty the Queen to Milngavie.

"I am pleased to see that finished project has a relatively minor impact on the landscape. Like many people in Bearsden and Milngavie, I use the reservoirs regularly for recreation and value the pleasant scenery that they offer.

"Loch Katrine has been supplying piped drinking water to Glasgow and elsewhere since the mid-19th century. The completion of this project represents the continuing legacy of pioneering engineering work in this area."

The original Loch Katrine Water Supply Scheme was opened in 1859 by Queen Elizabeth II's great-great-grandmother, Queen Victoria.

If you are a resident of the East Dunbartonshire constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
