Jo Swinson set for Liberal Youth launch

April 11, 2008 7:32 PM

Jo Swinson will launch Liberal Youth Scotland at Glasgow University this Saturday (12th April).

This follows Nick Clegg's recent UK-wide launch of Liberal Youth, the youth wing of the Liberal Democrats.

Commenting ahead of the launch, Jo said:

"More than ever, we need to hear the voice of young people in politics. Trust in politicians is low, as is election turnout. It is up to politicians to show that we can listen to young people on the political issues that they care about.

"One of the policies that first attracted me to the Liberal Democrats as a student was the penny on income tax for education. This, along with policies like our stance against the Iraq War, has meant that the Liberal Democrats have long been the party most attractive to young people.

"That is why I am delighted to be launching Liberal Youth. By re-invigorating the youth wing of the Liberal Democrats in Scotland, we are giving young people a way of bringing their ideas and talents to the future of our party."

The Liberal Youth Scotland launch is taking place in the John McIntyre Building of Glasgow University at 2pm on Saturday 12th April. For more details about the launch, email Markalex_scott@hotmail.com.

If you are a resident of the East Dunbartonshire constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
