Canal Society looks forward to Tourism Week

The Forth & Clyde Canal Society runs boat trips between Kirkintilloch and Bishopbriggs during the summer
Jo Swinson has joined with the Forth & Clyde Canal Society to promote Scottish Tourism Week 2008.
Scottish Tourism Week runs from 4th-11th March, and this year's organisers are urging people to 'Invest in Scottish Tourism'. During the Summer months, the Forth & Clyde Canal Society operates boat trips between Kirkintilloch and Bishopbriggs. The trips will be starting up just after Easter this year.
From 13th March until the end of April, every P6 pupil in East Dunbartonshire will be given the chance to take part in a canal trip run by the Canal Society.

"The Forth and Clyde Canal is one of the big tourist attractions in this area. The Falkirk Wheel drew a lot of attention to the canal a few years ago, but lots of additional regeneration has been taking place along the canal in East Dunbartonshire.
"Not only is tourism on the Forth & Clyde Canal sustainable, it also helps regenerate the canalside, both in the countryside and through developments like the new Kirkintilloch Marina.
"The Canal Society has been running summer boat trips between Kirkintilloch and Bishopbriggs for a number of consecutive summers now. The trips further boost the canal's credentials as a draw for tourists and mark a new chapter in the canal's regeneration."
Jim McLachlan of the Forth & Clyde Canal Society added:
"The Forth & Clyde Canal Society is about encouraging people to make the best use of the canal. This means not just using boats, but also walking, cycling, fishing and doing other activities."
