Lenzie pupils given political insights by Jo

January 25, 2008 4:05 PM

Standard Grade Modern Studies pupils at Lenzie Academy were given an insight into politics at Westminster today, by East Dunbartonshire MP Jo Swinson.

Jo held a question and answer session with the S3 and 4 pupils, answering questions on Prime Minister's Questions, the recent Lib Dem leadership election and party funding scandals.

Speaking after the visit, Jo said:

"The class showed a good grasp of many of the political issues making the news at the moment. It has been a busy period in politics, so from the new Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg to the recent party funding scandals, we had no shortage of topics for discussion.

"The S3 and 4 pupils at Lenzie Academy are at an age when a real interest in politics and the workings of Parliament can start to develop. Judging from the current group, who were keen and full of questions, there are more than a few who are interested already."

If you are a resident of the East Dunbartonshire constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
