Jo urges East Dunbartonshire to make a green New Year's resolution

Constituents can deposit cards at Jo's constituency office for recycling

Jo Swinson today urged East Dunbartonshire residents to make a New Year's resolution to recycle their Christmas cards.

The Woodland Trust hopes to recycle a record 100 million cards to help the Trust plant 24,000 trees. Last year 93 million cards were collected to enable the charity to plant 22,000 trees - equivalent to a forest the size of 44 football pitches.

Special recycling bins at Tesco and WH Smith will be provided from 2nd - 31st January. Alternatively, you can drop your Christmas cards into Jo's office at 4 Springfield House, Emerson Road, Bishopbriggs.

Jo, who is backing the scheme, said:

"People across Scotland will send over one hundred million cards this Christmas but amazingly one in five of us still throw our cards in the bin.

"I want everyone to recycle as many of their cards as possible to raise funds to help the Woodland Trust save woods and trees, and help cut down on the amount of waste that gets binned at this time of year.

"I will be taking all of my Christmas cards this year to a recycling point, and am happy to do the same for anyone who drops their cards at my constituency office in Bishopbriggs. Recycling Christmas cards is a great way for people to get their New Year off to a greener start."

The Woodland Trust is the UK's leading woodland conservation charity, with 300,000 members and supporters.
