The Christmas Club will bring much-needed extra business to the Post Office

Jo Swinson has welcomed the Post Office's announcement that it is to introduce a new Christmas savings club for 2008.

The Post Office Christmas Club will fill a gap created by the collapse of hamper company Farepak before Christmas 2006, which left many East Dunbartonshire families without hampers and vouchers they had saved for in the run up to Christmas.

Customers will be able to start saving money for Christmas 2008 at any Post Office branch from next month. They will be issued with a Christmas Club card which they can use to make deposits over the counter at their convenience.

Jo said:

"The Farepak collapse last year left many families in East Dunbartonshire facing a very bleak Christmas. Christmas is an expensive time of year for all of us, so it is understandable that many families prefer to use a savings scheme to spread the costs throughout the year and to avoid getting into debt.

"I'm delighted that the Post Office has set up the Christmas Club to help families save in a way that is convenient, with an company that is valued and trusted.

"The Christmas Club will also generate valuable business for local Post Offices, following the recent announcement over Post Office closures set to take place in the West of Scotland."

Customers interested in the Post Office Christmas Club can pre-register for more information by calling 08457223344. They will receive a registration pack and from January 2008 can take their application form plus ID to their local Post Office to complete the process and start saving.

If you are a resident of the East Dunbartonshire constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
