The award takes KSI halfway to their fundraising target

Kirkintilloch Skatepark Initiative has been awarded £230,000 by the WRG Communities Challenge.

Jo Swinson met with Susan Murray and skater Josh Stabler of KSI, who were in Westminster today to receive the award. The money moves KSI significantly nearer their £500,000 fundraising target.

Jo said:

"I am delighted to see KSI receive this major fundraising boost. This sets the group well on the way to their financial target and on course for their goal of starting construction of the skatepark in the spring.

"If all goes well, there may be skaters using the new skatepark before the end of summer next year."

14-year-old skater Josh Stabler said:

"I'm really happy that we're a big step closer to getting the skatepark. I can't wait for it to be built."

The Waste Recycling Group (WRG) Communities Challenge is run by WREN, the Waste Recycling Environmental Ltd. The Challenge provides £1 million of funding for community projects such as sports facilities, conservation areas and community centres.

KSI beat competition from 170 applicants to secure a place in the eight-strong shortlist of winners.

The challenge is open to all charity and not-for-profit organisations within 10 miles of a WRG landfill site who are organising capital projects that will improve the quality of life in the local community. Finalists this year range from village halls, to skate facilities and community parks.

If you are a resident of the East Dunbartonshire constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
