Christmas card competition entries

Almost 700 Christmas card competition entries were received

The winners of Jo Swinson's 2007 Christmas Card competition have been chosen by a panel of judges in Bishopbriggs.

The winners were:

• Christmas picture competition (picture to be printed on card front cover): Jessica Docherty, P7, St Andrew's Primary, Bearsden

• Christmas poem competition (poem to be printed inside Christmas card): Grant Robertson, S1, Bishopbriggs Academy

The judges, who included a reporter from the Kirkintilloch Herald, as well as a local writer, artist and gallery curator, chose the winners from nearly 700 entries sent in by local school pupils.

Jo Swinson said:

"My warmest congratulations to Jessica and Grant. I look forward to seeing their picture and poem on the finished 2007 Christmas card, and with the card being sent out to 1,500 local groups and individuals, many others will be able to enjoy their talents as well.

"As in previous years, pupils from schools across East Dunbartonshire have shown their artistic and poetic talents in equal measure. I'm sure the competition judges will testify what a difficult job they had in choosing a winner. All of the pupils who took part will receive a certificate of appreciation for their hard work."

Prizes for the competition have been kindly donated by Milngavie Bookshop. The two winners will each be awarded a £20 book token. Two runners up in each category will each receive a £10 token. They are:

• Christmas picture: Nicola Lang, S1, Lenzie Academy and Ethan Sawers, S1, Boclair Academy

• Christmas poem: Amanda Swan, P7, Lenzie Moss Primary and Morgan Dow, P5, Westerton Primary

Judging the competition was: Caren McPate (Kirky Herald), Hilde Garde Berwick (Lille Art Gallery curator), Sheila Livingstone (Strathkelvin Writers Group) and Imelda Shaughnessy (Milngavie Art Club President)

If you are a resident of the East Dunbartonshire constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
