A total of 44 Post Offices across the West of Scotland face the axe under Government plans

Post Offices in East Dunbartonshire are to be spared from closure, following the announcement today of details of the Government's planned closures in the West of Scotland.

There will be 44 Post Office closures in total, though none of the affected branches are located in East Dunbartonshire. Glasgow has come off worst, with 20 Post Offices singled out for the axe.

Commenting on the announcement, Jo Swinson said:

"The news that Post Offices in East Dunbartonshire are to be spared from closure will come as a huge relief to Post Office staff and customers.

"Having campaigned strongly against any further closures in this area, I am delighted with this successful outcome. It is the right decision - after the closures of recent years and the ongoing issue of Kirkintilloch Post Office's relocation, we simply can't afford to lose any more Post Offices in East Dunbartonshire.

"It is clear from the sweeping closures that have affected Post Offices in the West of Scotland as a whole that the threat to our local services was a very real one. With 44 closures in total across the wider area, there is sadness for the Post Office network as a whole, which has taken a heavy blow today."

There is a public consultation the planned closures, which runs from today until 3rd December. Submissions can be made to Sally Buchanan, Network Development Manager, c/o National Consultation Team, FREEPOST CONSULTATION TEAM or email to consultation@postoffice.co.uk. The Post Office customer helpline number is 08457 223344.

If you are a resident of the East Dunbartonshire constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
