Jo has been a strong campaigner against Post Office closures in East Dunbartonshire

Jo Swinson has pledged to fight Government plans to axe any more East Dunbartonshire Post Offices.

Government Ministers have already revealed plans for the compensated closures of 2,500 Post Offices nationwide. Final decisions over which branches will be affected are currently being taken, but an announcement of these details is on hold while officials inform sub-postmasters facing closure. A public consultation on the closures in the West of Scotland will begin on October 22nd.

Commenting on the proposals, Jo said:

"It is bad enough that people across the country will lose vital local services because of these Post Office cuts, but in East Dunbartonshire there really is no scope for further closures. We have already lost one third of all the Post Offices in our area since 2004. As things stand we simply cannot lose any more.

"Next month people will have the opportunity to put their views across to the Post Office's public consultation. I will be fighting tooth and nail against any cuts announced in East Dunbartonshire, and urge residents who value their local Post Office to do likewise."

In 2005 Jo campaigned against the closure of the Post Office counter in Morrisons supermarket in Bishopbriggs. The Post Office was saved when local businessman John Dickson agreed to house the service in his local store. More recently, Jo has campaigned against the relocation of Kirkintilloch Post Office to the town's WH Smith store.

If you are a resident of the East Dunbartonshire constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
