Jo praised the service provided by Silver Surfers

Jo Swinson promoted her new e-consultation service on a visit to Kirkintilloch Silver Surfers today.

The e-consultation service will see Jo contacting constituents by email to seek views on a varied range of issues. Responses will be polled and results emailed out to participants, with Jo making use of feedback in her role as MP. The Silver Surfers is a group funded by BT and Age Concern, set up to teach IT and internet skills to elderly people.

Commenting on the new service, Jo said:

"The idea behind the e-consultation service is to prompt people in East Dunbartonshire to put their views across on some of the more complex or thoughtful issues I represent them on.

"Participants in the service will be contacted by email and asked to give their views on a particular issue, which will then feed into an overall poll of responses. Discussions could focus on national issues such as freedom of information laws, or local matters like the improvement of East Dunbartonshire town centres.

"As Kirkintilloch Silver Surfers shows, IT can be accessible to everyone, and can offer valuable tools to MPs, MSPs and Councillors to improve the service they offer constituents. One of my aims as a Member of Parliament is to use the potential of email and the internet to represent better the people of East Dunbartonshire.

"To sign up to the e-consultation service, just send an email with your name and address to yourviews@joswinson.org.uk. The first consultation will start in early September."

If you are a resident of the East Dunbartonshire constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.

    • If you agree, Jo Swinson, the Liberal Democrats, and their elected representatives may use the information you provide to contact you about issues you may find of interest. Some of the contacts may be automated. You can opt out of these contacts at any time by contacting us.
